QUESTION 1

You will deliver a presentation focusing on “Redesigning packaging”. Please could you give us a quick overview of what you will be sharing with our audience?

In our ‘Redesigning Packaging’ presentation, we will emphasize the significance of the Circular Economy, especially within the MENA region, and how its success depends on reimagining plastic packaging. We'll explore practical strategies for redesigning plastic to enhance sustainability, functionality, and recyclability, highlighting cutting-edge innovations in plastic structure development.

Furthermore, we'll showcase our robust recycling infrastructure and advanced capabilities, which are essential for realizing the full potential of redesigned packaging, thereby driving significant environmental benefits, fostering economic growth, and enhancing social well-being.

QUESTION 2

What drives the growth of the sustainable packaging market in the Middle East and Africa?

There are multiple driving factors in the MEA pushing for sustainable packaging solutions. New government regulations and policies in the MEA have been setting strict rules on packaging, specifically plastics, such as the Saudi Vision 2030 and integration of the Circular Carbon Economy National Program into policies, as well as the UAE ban on plastic bags in 2024. Furthermore, with high per capita waste generation in the MEA and poor waste management infrastructure in many countries, we are witnessing growing investments in local recycling and circular economy initiatives. Meanwhile, with advances in bioplastics, plant-based materials, reusable packaging, and other innovative solutions, sustainable packaging is seen as a solution to reduce landfill waste and pollution. In addition, growing environmental awareness, eco-conscious consumers, businesses, and market trends are increasing the demand for non-toxic, recyclable (minimal-waste) packaging.

QUESTION 3

What are the biggest challenges the packaging industry faces now, and how is Napco planning to tackle them?

The flexible packaging industry is currently facing several significant challenges:

  1. High Cost of Sustainable Alternatives: Customers are increasingly interested in sustainable options such as monomaterials and recycled content. However, these specialty products come with higher material costs, making customers hesitant to adopt them.
  2. Stricter Environmental Regulations: While Europe and the USA have stringent environmental regulations, the MENA region has a more relaxed system. Complying with stricter regulations involves higher R&D costs to enter European markets.

Napco National is addressing these challenges by investing in the latest machinery to develop eco-friendly, recyclable packaging solutions that meet consumer demand for sustainable products at the lowest possible costs. Additionally, Napco is building long-lasting relationships with raw material suppliers to ensure a steady supply of sustainable materials and partnering with customers and suppliers to develop innovative, sustainable solutions.

QUESTION 4

Why do you feel it’s important for companies to attend the Sustainability in Packaging MENA Conference in Dubai?

It is crucial for companies in the MENA region to stay aware and up to date with global sustainability trends, regulations, and news to remain economically profitable. The Sustainability in Packaging MENA conference is an invaluable platform to stay informed, innovate, and collaborate towards a more sustainable future.
