About the Tour

The oldest stadium in the NFL is also one of the greenest. In 2012, Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears, was the first NFL stadium to become LEED Certified.

Following the renovation and reopening of Soldier Field in 2003, the Chicago Park District made it a goal to improve performance and efficiency while also reducing their carbon footprint. Through programs that promoted lowering operating costs, conserving energy and water, and reducing waste and harmful greenhouse gas emissions, Soldier Field met these environmentally conscious goals to provide a healthier and safer building for occupants.

Greening practices at Soldier Field are implemented every day to ensure that they are reducing their environmental impact. Such practices include:

  • Reusing all soil and sod removed from the field and repurposing for landscaping projects
  • Using green cleaning chemicals and reusing and refilling spray bottles and containers
  • Recycling all cardboard, aluminum, plastic bottles, delivery pallets, office paper, ink cartridges, glass, light bulbs, batteries, lost cell phones and eye glasses
  • Replacing traditional lighting with LED lights
  • Providing free charging stations for electric vehicles in parking lots

On this tour, you will experience both the history and modern-day journey of Soldier Field, dedicated to the men and women of the armed services and home to the Chicago Bears and Chicago Fire FC. On this tour, you will visit the South Courtyard, “The Spirit of the American Doughboy” statue, the Visitor’s Locker Room and Interview Room, Skyline Suite and more.

There will NOT be secure storage available for personal belongings on site, guests can leave their belongings on the shuttle as the driver will not leave the bus, however in all cases Smithers and Ideal Charter are not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
